SEA CANTO (winter 2018/19)
Relying on a collision of the physical and the spiritual, these large-scale canvases (each is 2.5m long), combine to form one work: a 'Sea Song', a spiritual journey, in and of the sea, yet created without reference to any real landscape or pre-extant visual representation.
At once a reminder of our complex connections with the sea and of its - and our own - vulnerabilities, Sea Canto is also closely related to my In Limine project, a vast open metaphor which lingers on the edge of imperceptible boundaries. Always in flux, highly tactile, revelatory and - I hope ultimately - restorative grounds for reflection. |
